چکیده
Abstract The intensifying impacts of climate change pose a serious global threat, particularly for rural populations whose livelihoods are closely tied to natural resources. Yet there is lack critical understanding how asymmetric power dynamics shape the vulnerabilities such under change. This article examines interrelations between smallholders’ climate-related vulnerability experiences and relations across multiple scales adaptation in Peruvian Andes, region susceptible increasing climatic threats. analysis draws on case study conducted Mantaro River Valley Central Peru using qualitative methods: open-ended interviews, participant observation, document analysis. Findings show that context change, production has much do with larger socio-political structures which protection highland farmers not prioritized. impact uneven scalar other overlapping fields policy have created terms among smallholders. marginalization, conflicts, deepened I argue reach better multidimensionality vulnerabilities, more detailed attention must be paid place-based within context-specific, processes, ways these shaped by unequal scales.

Deglaciation and Holocene climate change in the western Peruvian Andes
Pollen, charcoal, magnetic susceptibility, and bulk density data provide the first paleoecological record spanning the last 33,000 years from the western cordillera of the Peruvian Andes. Sparse super-puna vegetation existed before 30,000 cal yr B.P. around Lake Compuerta (3950 m elevation), prior to a sedimentary hiatus that lasted until c. 16,200 cal yr B.P. When sedimentation resumed, a glac...
متن کاملRisks, vulnerabilities and resilience in a context of climate change
Agricultural activities are by nature prone to risks and uncertainties of various nature, both biophysical, abiotic, climatic, environmental, biotic (pests, diseases) and economic. Many of these risks have a climatic component and most of them will be affected by climate change, either in intensity, scope or frequency. The aim of this paper is not to review the increasing literature on risks, o...

We evaluated prevalence of cystic echinococcosis (CE) in a central Peruvian Highland district by using 4 diagnostic methods: ultrasonography for 949 persons, radiography for 829, and 2 serologic tests for 929 (2 immunoblot formats using bovine hydatid cyst fluid [IBCF] and recombinant EpC1 glutathione S-transferase [rEpC1-GST] antigens). For the IBCF and rEpC1-GST testing, prevalence of liver a...
